“After two weather events that damaged our farm bridge we employed Rycroft Construction to restore the bridge to its former state - to the specifications designed by ACE Limited, Morrinsville.

Our negotiations with Leith were conducted with great efficiency and the work was carried out causing minimal disruption to the running of the farm. This involved strengthening of the bridge and providing erosion protection in the waterway. The finished site was left in a tidy state and we were very pleased with the results of the whole project. It was a real pleasure working with them.”

OUR WORK

TINUI FLOOD-DAMAGED BRIDGE REPLACEMENT

On 14th February 2023, a severe weather event brought unprecedented rainfall that overwhelmed a critical bridge used by our client. The sheer volume of water exerted immense pressure on the structure, causing the 1400mm Universal Beam (UB) girders to bend by 250mm. The damage rendered the bridge unsafe and impassable, necessitating an urgent solution to restore access and functionality.

Understanding the vital importance of this crossing for the client's day-to-day operations, Rycroft Construction swiftly initiated the construction of a new 25-metre span bridge. To minimise disruption, we first erected a temporary bridge, allowing the client to continue their activities without significant interruption. This temporary solution ensured continuity while we focused on delivering a durable and robust permanent structure.

For the heavy lifting required in this project, we utilised a McIntosh 220-tonne crane, showcasing our capability to handle large-scale components with precision and safety. The new bridge was engineered to accommodate loads of up to 55 tonnes, significantly enhancing its capacity and resilience against future environmental challenges.

Despite encountering a few delays—a common occurrence in projects of this complexity—we remained committed to our timeline and completed the bridge within an impressive eight weeks. This achievement highlights our dedication to efficiency, reliability, and client satisfaction, even when faced with unforeseen obstacles.

EKETĀHUNA BRIDGE RENEWAL PROJECT

Located just north of Eketāhuna, this substantial project involved the comprehensive rehabilitation and upgrade of a vital bridge serving the local community. The endeavour was divided into two key phases to ensure structural integrity and minimise disruption to daily activities.

In the first phase, our team focused on repairing the existing abutments—the critical supports at each end of the bridge span. Restoring these foundational elements was essential to reinforce the bridge's overall stability and extend its lifespan. Our skilled crew meticulously repaired and strengthened the old abutments, laying the groundwork for the enhancements to follow.

A few months later, we commenced the second phase of the project. This involved the installation of new 18-metre-long bridge beams, providing robust support for the upgraded structure. Alongside these beams, we placed new concrete deck slabs to form a solid and reliable roadway surface. To ensure cohesion and additional strength, a topping slab was poured over the deck slabs, effectively tying all components together into a unified whole.

The successful completion of the Eketāhuna Bridge Renewal Project not only restored essential connectivity but also significantly improved the bridge's capacity and durability. By carefully planning and executing each phase, we demonstrated our commitment to excellence and our ability to handle complex projects efficiently. This undertaking highlights Rycroft Construction's expertise in delivering tailored solutions that meet the specific needs of our clients while upholding the highest standards of safety and quality.

WAIROA TIMBER POLE BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION

In the picturesque region of Wairoa, Rycroft Construction completed the construction of a new 8-metre timber pole bridge. This project was specifically designed to support 10-tonne livestock and side-by-side vehicles, addressing the client's need for a sturdy and reliable crossing to enhance their farm operations.

Utilising high-quality timber poles, our team crafted a bridge that not only meets the necessary load requirements but also blends harmoniously with the natural environment. The design prioritised both functionality and sustainability, ensuring the structure can withstand the rigours of daily use while minimising environmental impact.

The successful completion of the Wairoa Timber Pole Bridge highlights our dedication to providing customised solutions tailored to the unique needs of our clients. By combining traditional materials with expert engineering, we delivered a cost-effective and efficient bridge that significantly improves accessibility and productivity for the farm.

MESSAGE

“Rycroft did the contract to replace our flood damaged 25m bridge. We got two quotes and the easiest one to get was also the best, there was very little paper work and it was done quickly.

Once work started we were kept up to date and given time lines, as expected things did not go as smoothly as hoped due to circumstances out of Rycrofts control, but things they could control went well. All the subcontracters did their job well and we finished with a fine new bridge & the work areas were left tidy.

We would get Leith and co back for other jobs without any worries at all.”
